In today’s digital age, screens are everywhere, and they have made our lives simpler, so we now completely rely on them. From smartphones to laptops, tablets to TVs, our lives revolve around screens. Though technology has made our lives easier in many ways, excessive screen time can have negative effects on our mental and physical health. It can be unpleasant to always view a screen, and in many cases, it can prevent us from generating original thoughts. So how to reduce your screen time? Fortunately, there are creative solutions for reducing screen time that can help us break free from the digital world.

Here are a few Tips on how to Reduce your Screen time and enjoy a more Balanced lifestyle:

Set screen time limits for all the screens: One of the most effective ways to reduce screen time is to set limits on how much time you spend on your devices. You can get this task done by using applications that track your usage or by setting up device-free times during the day. For example, you could make it a rule not to check your phone during a meal, or you could switch off your phone an hour before you go to sleep.

Use screen-free alternatives: instead of staring at a screen, try to engage in activities that don’t require technology. This includes reading a book, going for a long walk, completing a puzzle, or playing a board game. Doing such activities will not only give your eyes a break but can also stimulate your mind in new ways.

Don’t watch any screens while having your meals: Having a meal is a divine activity, and it is regarded as the time when families get together to discuss their daily activities in many cultures. In this digital age, everything has changed drastically, and when it comes to TV, laptops, or cell phones, we are aware that we are addicted to screens. Even when we are busy eating, we are addicted to such an extent that we continue to consume content from the screen. We won’t be able to properly concentrate on our food during this lengthy process. Put your phones away, and turn off the television. A study conducted proved scientifically that spending more time in front of a screen is bad for our health and may harm our eyes and lead to more negative health effects.

Practicing Mindfulness: Mindfulness meditation is a powerful tool for reducing stress and anxiety, and it can also help you disconnect from your devices. By focusing on your breath or body sensations, you can train your mind to be more present and less distracted by screens.

Reduce the Amount of time you spend on Social Media: With the advent of the internet, new opportunities and possibilities opened up for all of us. We were able to communicate with friends and family throughout the world thanks to the Internet. With the internet came social media platforms that allow us to look into the lives of influencers we admire and also the lives of people from our past. Scrolling down on social media and catching up on what people around the world are doing might seem good for a while, and this is due to the dopamine released while scrolling.

This has led us to get addicted to our smartphones with each passing day. You can delete your social media accounts for a while until you are in a mental space where you are controlling the usage of that app rather than the app controlling you.

Set goals that are Achievable: If you want to reduce your screen time, it is important to set attainable goals. You can start small by aiming to cut back on your usage by just 10-15 minutes a day. Slowly, as you become more comfortable with this, you can gradually increase your goals. It is also important to take breaks from screens throughout the day. For every hour, try to take a 10-15-minute break to stretch, move your body, or rest your eyes by shutting them. This helps prevent eye strain and fatigue.

Use of Grayscale on mobile devices instead of Colour: If you are someone who is finding it difficult to reduce the time you use your smartphone, try to switch to a grayscale screen automatically because you won’t find it as enticing or attractive to scroll through any app when the color is gray. Instead, you can use your phone for important tasks, which will cut down on your screen time. You can enable the grayscale display feature on your smartphone by going to settings.

Reducing screen time can be challenging, but with the help of such creative solutions, it is possible to break free from digital distractions and enjoy a more balanced lifestyle.

In conclusion, it’s important to prioritize your mental and physical health by reducing screen time. By implementing solutions such as the ones mentioned in this article, you can break free from digital distractions and enjoy a more balanced lifestyle. Making those small changes is difficult, and I know that because I have been there. But gradually, even when you are failing to make those changes, you have to keep trying constantly and make those small changes, as they are the ones that make a big impact. So start by setting achievable goals and working your way towards a healthier relationship with technology.
