Key milestones in the history of the East Asia Summit include the 2005 Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the East Asia Summit, the 2010 Ha Noi Declaration on the Commemoration of the Fifth Anniversary of the East Asia Summit, and the 2015 Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the 10th Anniversary of the East Asia Summit. Recent News About the East Asia Summit

During the closing ceremony of the 43rd ASEAN Summit, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo officially handed over the baton of the ASEAN chairmanship to Prime Minister of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic, Sonexay Siphandone. This marked the end of Indonesia’s ASEAN chairmanship. The three-day ASEAN Summit, held from September 5-7, produced 90 documents and several concrete agreements with partner countries.

President Jokowi chaired 12 sessions, including the 43rd ASEAN Summit in plenary and retreat formats, the 26th ASEAN-China Summit, the 24th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Summit, the 26th ASEAN-Japan Summit, and the 11th ASEAN-United States Summit. The summit was attended by leaders of partner countries and international organizations, including Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau, Premier of the People’s Republic of China Li Qiang, President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol, Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida, Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese, and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

The 19th East Asia Summit is scheduled to take place from Sunday, October 6, 2024, to Friday, October 11, 2024, in Vientiane. Additionally, several important meetings are planned, including the Third Meeting of the East Asia Summit Participating Countries’ Ambassadors to ASEAN in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, and the East Asia Summit Senior Officials’ Meeting in Vientiane from Tuesday, August 20, 2024, to Thursday, August 22, 2024.
