Rising Violence in Pakistan Targets Foreign Nationals Amid Security Concerns

In a tragic incident on the night of October 6, 2024, two Chinese nationals were killed in a terrorist attack near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport, highlighting escalating violence against foreign nationals in Pakistan. The explosion, which occurred around 11 p.m., left several others injured and has sent shockwaves through the country’s fragile security landscape.

The targeted attack, for which a militant group has claimed responsibility, is believed to be linked to ongoing tensions surrounding China’s involvement in infrastructure projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The victims were employees working on Chinese projects in Pakistan. This incident marks yet another attempt to disrupt Pakistan’s collaboration with China, which has been the subject of repeated threats and attacks.

In response, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan issued a strong condemnation, urging the Pakistani government to take more decisive steps in ensuring the safety of its citizens and foreign nationals involved in critical projects. Security forces have ramped up investigations, but no arrests have been made yet.

This attack has reignited concerns about the safety of foreign workers and the overall stability in Pakistan, raising alarms not just within the country but internationally.
