The forthcoming Beijing Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is anticipated to focus on infrastructure development, industrial development, agricultural transformation and science and technology, reported Xinhua News citing a senior Ethiopian minister.

Admasu Nebebe, Deputy Minister of the Ethiopia Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation (MoFEC), stated that the summit is anticipated to witness discussions on how African countries and China can bolster their collaboration particularly in the four major sectors – infrastructure, industry, agriculture, and science and technology.

The minister stated that African countries must set aside more investment for their infrastructure, carry out strong industrial development, revolutionize their agricultural sector, and invest in science and technology in order to develop their economies like China.

The relationship between China and Ethiopia combines factors of infrastructure and knowledge-based cooperation with nearly 6,000 Ethiopians pursuing their education for the past several years in the largest economy in Asia, Nebebe added.

The 2018 Beijing Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) is scheduled to be organized from September 3 to 4 and will have the theme “China and Africa: toward an even stronger community with a shared future through win-win cooperation.”

The minister further stated that the last FOCAC summit was organized three years ago in November 2015 in Johannesburg, South Africa and the upcoming summit is expected to be a historic event of grand family gathering between African nations and China.

The 2018 Beijing FOCAC summit will be chaired by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
